Create!

Giving myself the morning off, I decided to sit down with a cup of coffee, listen to some Prokofiev, and read poetry. I needed this: I often overwork myself and skip these needed break days.

.

.

So what to read? Poetry? The Kirkus Review? Thomas Mann? Everything I picked up left me blank.

.

.

From this urge to relax came a sudden and insatiable urge to find something creative to read. Something that would inspire me. But nothing fit. So I decided, in a flash, that I’d create it!

.

.

I decided to write a poem, my quickest and most comfortable craft. In a flurry of wild and exciting energy (i.e. inspiration), I grabbed a writing prompt book I wasn’t using, wrote a poem in blue Sharpie, then outlined it in orange, going back over the words but also using the spaces in which to write more words. And I fucking love it! (I’m showing it in a later post).

.

.

So much energy!

.

.

And if affects your entire life in so many other ways too. Only an hour after creating this work, I felt so energized, so much lighter. I gave people compliments and push them to be more creative and positive in their acts and thoughts. I was drunk off creativity haha! And right before I went in to work, I went into @21cchicago and felt inspired even more. It’s a cycle!

.

.

And remember, if you can’t find what you’re looking for, make something. I like how I couldn’t just sit down in the corner and be “good”. I had to create. And once you tap into that, it’s that simple. To quote the character Lucas from the movie Empire records, who himself quotes Jim Morrison: “the time to hesitate is through”.

Thank you @chasejarvis for writing your book, Creative Calling, and for giving me the steps to making myself more creative every single day.
